A CALL FOR JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS IN GOMBE STATE NANNM LEADERSHIP:NEED FOR TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY- Mustapha Aliyu- (CNO), RN, ROCN, BNSC, MIL, FPC

I write with profound disappointment and deep concern over the recently conducted NANNM by-election for the position of State Chairman.

Every credible election is guided by established principles to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability. In an effort to uphold these values, a screening committee was meticulously constituted, comprising highly respected and distinguished professionals from our esteemed institutions in the state.

These individuals, known for their integrity and commitment to justice, dedicated their valuable time to ensuring a free and fair process. However, after their painstaking efforts and the submission of their well documented report, it was unilaterally invalidated without any justifiable explanation.

This unprecedented action raises serious concerns about the integrity of the election and fuels suspicions of a well orchestrated conspiracy. Such an act not only undermines the credibility of the election but also disrespects the tireless efforts of our leaders and erodes the trust of nurses in the electoral process. For too long, nurses from tertiary institutions have endured systemic marginalization, despite their significant contributions through check-off dues.

The provisions of our constitution should be the guiding principle in leadership selection, not favoritism and manipulation.

This is not just about an election, it is about justice, equity, and the future of nursing leadership in Gombe state and beyond. We must continue to demand fairness, transparency, and accountability in our association.
