Nurses Mourn As Accident And Emergency Nurse Dies Of Lassa Fever

It was all tears yesterday at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ebonyi as an Accident and Emergency Nurse dies of lassa fever.

Innocent Egwuchukwu, who worked at accident and emergency unit of Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA)Ebonyi State, Nigeria as a Nurse has passed away at the early hours of yesterday as a result of lassa fever.

He was reportedly the health personnel who was transferred and quarantined at Irrua specialist hospital in Edo state after he manifested lassa fever symptoms which has already led to the death of two doctors in his facility, Dr Felix Ali,Dept of Community Medicine & Dr Abel Sunday Udo, Dept of Otorhinolaryngology,FETHA.

Dr Felix Ali had complications of Lassa fever & he was taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital,Irrua where he eventually died.
Dr Abel Sunday operated on a patient 3weeks ago suspected to have had lassa fever and he also died .He also lost the patient.
Fellow Nurses Africa sends her condonllences to the family members of this Nursing Icon who has laid down his life to the service of humanity despite all odds. We pray God give him eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

We therefore advice all Nurses and Healthcare Professionals to be very careful and apply universal safety precautions as they manage patients.
