For many, a career in nursing is a lifelong commitment, demanding compassion, resilience, and dedication. But what if your heart beats for something more—something creative, expressive, and deeply personal?
For Kelvin Ossai, nursing was never a limitation. Instead, it became the foundation for a life filled with purpose, music, and passion. A Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Public Health Practitioner, Kelvin has dedicated his life to saving lives, but beyond the hospital walls, he is also a gifted musician with a voice that touches the soul.
From growing up in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, to performing on global stages, Kelvin’s story is one of perseverance, faith, and the courage to embrace every facet of his talent.

Balancing Nursing and Music
FNA: Have you transitioned from nursing to music?
Kelvin: Not at all! I’m fully committed to both. Music has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. I officially released my first song in 2014 and have been putting out music ever since. My EP, Yours Truly, dropped in December 2013, and my latest single, Falling, was released in January 2025. Nursing is my profession, but music is my heartbeat.

FNA: Has your nursing background influenced your music?
Kelvin: Absolutely! Music came first—I was singing in choirs long before I became a nurse. But nursing refined my creative process. Just like in patient care, I assess, plan, implement, and evaluate my music. Who am I singing to? What message am I passing? Is it uplifting? Healing? Nursing has taught me structure, and I apply that same discipline to my music.
A Musical Journey Rooted in Passion
FNA: What was your childhood like?
Kelvin: I didn’t grow up in wealth, but my mother’s sacrifices made all the difference. She paid for my piano lessons, even when it wasn’t easy. As a child, I made drums out of milk tins and rubber bands—I was creating music before I even knew what it meant to be an artist. I played drums and keyboard in church, led university choirs, and even wrote songs for my graduating nursing class. Music was always part of me, and no matter where life took me, I never let go of it.

Advice for Nurses with Creative Passions
FNA: What advice do you have for nurses who also have creative passions?
Kelvin: Start now. You were a human before you became a nurse, and your dreams matter. Whether it’s music, fashion, business, or art—embrace it. Don’t compare yourself to those who have been doing it for years; just keep improving. And don’t let social media metrics define your worth.
If 100 people listen to your song, that’s a stadium full of supporters. Keep going, keep creating, and don’t let anything dim your light.
What’s Next for Kelvin Ossai?
FNA: What can we expect from you next?
Kelvin: This year is packed! I have upcoming performances with Johnny Drille in April and May across the UK—London, Manchester, and Birmingham. Plus, I’m collaborating with top artists and working on new visuals, singles, and studio sessions. There’s so much more to come—stay tuned!
